Exhibition : Musicians of Brittany

The influence of the Breton music scene is fascinating. Brittany is a land of festivals and until the end of the 90s cabarets mushroomed and there was an effervescence of music of all kinds. Steeped in a rich musical history, Brittany has continued to nurture the cultural, social and political life of the Armorican peninsula.

It is, therefore,only natural that the first temporary exhibition when the Breizh Odyssée site opens should address the women and men who make music in Brittany.

This exhibition takes a look at the history of Breton music since Antiquity and its traditional component in both classical and modern music.

From the Celtic harp to rap, from protest songs to bagadous – traditional Breton marching bands. It explains the background of the different dance traditions by region, through the iconic 70s, the musicians and their albums,tales of Armorican bards and finally it’s all brought up to date by looking at current trends in Breton music.

So many key topics in a contemporary setting, brought to life with a cycle of conferences and concerts. This is an opportunity to feast your eyes and open wide your ears and to explore the exceptional relationship that the Bretons have with their music and the rest of the world.
